Chavutti Thirumal originated in Kerala, South India – home of the ancient art of Kalarippayattu, a martial art & Kathakali, a classical dance. They focus on mental, physical, intellectual & spiritual balance – integrating yoga, dance & Ayurvedic medicine. Both used regular Chavutti to promote strength & suppleness & to prevent injury during training. Chavutti massage is unique – it is done by the feet, using a rope to balance, while making long sweeping strokes. Pressure can be tailored for the needs of each client.
This thorough full body therapy last around 1.5 hours, using warm oils. For the 1st part of the session you will be asked to remove all your clothes & lie naked face down. If you wish to cover up whilst lying on your back during the 2nd half of the massage, you will need to bring with you a thong or G-string. Please don’t plan to be rushing back to work or out to dinner afterwards – taking time to rest & nurture yourself after any massage is advised. There will be a consultation before the treatment. I was trained by the incomparable Helen Noakes at Purple Valley, Goa.
I’m not going to be practising for a while. Other therapists in London are:
Sarah Scott in Finsbury Park
Emma Field @ Triyoga
Jessica Loeb @ Moving East or Natureworks

Do you know anyone who teaches this in the UK. I’ve been dancing and walking on my husband’s back for 3 years now I’d love to learn some professional moves!

Hi Zoe, I don’t know anyone up your way – only in London. It’s a great reason to visit Goa & study with Helen
